Two Harmony Hawks quartets delivered Singing Valentines this year. The quartet consisting of Steve Nelson, Darrel Herschberger, Bill Moss and Kevin Sindelar worked a long day Friday, and the Forget Me Notes quartet of Jack Ray, Al Huneke, Gary Lindsay and Mary Huneke worked both Friday and Saturday. Friday Feb, 13 was the more popular day which we’ll need to remember next year when Valentines Day falls on Sunday, and Presidents Day falls on Monday.
We sold 30 Singing Valentines through our Google Docs account. Many were ordered directly through the website HarmonyHawks.org and the forms that were linked to that. We placed ads on FaceBook, Instagram and BlueSky, and had a radio spot on WMT. We also sent out direct email contacts from members. Not every buyer identified where they learned of the opportunity to buy, but of those that did, five cited a personal invitation, four were return customers, three were from email invitations, two found us online, and one each heard of us on Instagram and from our WMT appearance.
Our telephone option brought Singing Valentines to Arizona, Australia, the Philippines, and to a nice lady celebrating her 100th birthday.
Beyond this data lies the bigger story: we helped people know how much they were loved, and that is powerful! Our old and somewhat hokey serenade songs touch hearts. We could see it in their faces and hear it in their voices. In several instances, the giver of the Valentine was there with the recipient and it was touching to see the emotion exchanged between the couples: their eyes met and misted, hands reached out, and some kissed.
We did a few free Valentines to help spread the word about our chorus to new audiences. The best news is that we are just touching the surface of what we can do. Let’s look back on that number of five SVs sold by direct contact from members. We do better than that.
(Pull out some of these and review before rehearsal)
***About “Bridge Over Troubled Water”: If you really want to keep this song in our repertoire, then you need to demonstrate that. For one more week, you need to work on the song using the learning tracks. We will try the song again at rehearsal. If there is not adequate improvement, we will remove this from our list of songs. It is up to you!
Remember that you are to bring your music to rehearsal every week, along with a pencil. Please use your music when we are introducing songs that haven’t been sung in a while and when you are not 100% certain of the notes. There is NO BETTER WAY to fix notes than to see them in print while you are singing them!
It is still not too late to get the word out about Singing Valentines. Sales will continue right up to the last one on Saturday, or until our quartets run out of energy! All the information needed for ordering Singing Valentines is available on the website HarmonyHawks.org.
