New song added to the rep

At last Tuesday’s rehearsal Chad introduced the chorus to “That Lonesome Road, ” and the PDF and tracks are available now here on the website. The song was written by James Taylor and released in 1981. Its tone and the regret expressed in the second stanza might cause us to reflect on some of the divisive rhetoric of the past years. Since its publication the song has since become a favorite of college glee clubs and ensembles. Here are the lyrics and a link to Taylor singing the song with a festival choir:

Walk down that lonesome road all by yourself
Don’t turn your head back over your shoulder
And only stop to rest yourself
When the silver moon
Is shining high above the trees

If I had stopped to listen once or twice
If I had closed my mouth and opened my eyes
If I had cooled my head and warmed my heart
I’d not be on this road tonight

Carry on, carry on, carry on
Never mind feeling sorry for yourself
It doesn’t save you from your troubled mind

Walk down that lonesome road all by yourself
Don’t turn your head back over your shoulder
And only stop to rest yourself
When the silver moon
Is shining high above the trees

Congratulations to Oakley and Kirsten

Ari Lyon was born last Tuesday. In honor of that blessing, the chorus sang “Isn’t She Lovely” to the new parents. Oakley replied to the email I sent with the video writing, “Oh my goodness you all! That is amazing! We are so happy to have such a great group of people in our lives! 🥰🥰”

Linn County Fair entertained by the Hawks

Several members of the chorus performed at the Linn County Fair, Sunday, June 26, for the Military Appreciation Day. The chorus sang the National Anthem, “Isn’t She Lovely”, “America the Beautiful Overlay” and “Armed Forces Medley.”
These two young folks served as an impromptu color guard for the National Anthem.
Corn Dogs and Cheerios. Those leaving the grandstand got free box of General Mills cereal, and many of us headed for a fair food lunch. Almost anything was available as long as it could be fried on on a stick.

Tuesday’s rehearsal

We will rehearse Tuesday, July 5, 6:30 to 8:30. Look for Tom Zuber’s email about the specific schedule of songs.
