Weekly Update, July 9

Rehearsals resume this Thursday

Please review the music we’ve been rehearsing lately giving extra attention to those parts we worked on in sectionals.

Everyone in Harmony: Time to decide

The Barbershop Harmony Society has been posting information for sometime now about its vision for the future, and has named this “Everyone in Harmony.” If you have not been following, it is time to catch up! For those of you who have been following, it’s time to speak up as we determine the future of the Harmony Hawks Chorus. A place to start is this video from BHS.

At our next board meeting, we will be having a discussion about how our chorus will decide how to move forward on this initiative. Will we remain as an all-male chorus? Will we actively recruit women to join us? Will we make an effort to reach out across racial and sexual orientation lines in our recruitment effort? Most important, how will we make this decision?

The first step is for all chorus members to become aware of the Everyone in Harmony initiative by reading the Harmonizer, by reading Livewire as it is delivered weekly online, or going to the BHS website. This link to Frequently Asked Questions may also be a good place to start. Please make this a priority and talk to a board member about your thoughts. I will be creating a survey soon on Google Docs to gather your thoughts individually. Look for a link to that in a Weekly Update soon.

Summer Naturalization events

The chorus has the summer off from doing these events with Metro Mix’s  Extension Chords singing in July 20 and August.
Aged2Perfection has October and December. and Extension Chords will September’s in West Branch sing in November at the Federal Courthouse.

Hear about Youth in Harmony Event

Dean Beckman will take some time at break Thursday to discuss the Youth In Harmony event we will be sponsoring this fall. Please give him your full attention.

Recent renewal

Wendell Aldrich renewal was celebrated at the June 28 Chapter Meeting.

The latest of our renewal celebrations was in honor of Wendell Aldrich, a member for 26 years. Wendell has sung with the quartet Road Trip and served the chapter in many leadership roles. including board member, President (for three years), and as Chapter Secretary, a position he continues to hold. Wendell performs at most New Citizen’s Ceremonies with Aged2Perfection and is the reigning Harmony Hawks Barbershopper of the Year. We are very fortunate to have Wendell as a member!
