Old Capitol Chorus Show is tonight!

The Old Capitol Chorus presents their spring show tonight at 7 p.m. Sat. at City High School in Iowa City. Please try to support them by attending the show. Contact other chorus members to carpool. Call me at 319-721-0781 if you would like to ride with me.

New Sing-out

We have been asked once again to sing for the Honor Flight orientation sessions at The Hotel Kirkwood on Sunday, April 6 at noon and 3:00. Yes, this is the day after our Spring Show. The organizers were very impressed with us the last time we sang, as were the attendees. Please check your schedules to see if you are available, as you will be asked to give a commitment on Tuesday.

We will have the Old Capitol Chorus on the show, replacing the What 4 quartet. Please have all the songs performance-ready for this week’s rehearsal. The Probable Song Order is listed in the Tuesday Plan below.

People can order their tickets, and pay, on our website, by finding the link on the upcoming events page, or from the event in the calendar. Here is the link if you want to include it in your emails to potential customers. https://harmonyhawks.org/event/spring-show-2/#tribe-tickets__tickets-form

  • This week, make follow-up contacts if needed.
  • Look for additional possible sales contacts. Ask for leads from Gary Lindsay if you are out of ideas.

If any of you would like a business card to use in your contacts with clients, please reply to this email and ask me to make some for you. I’ll have them ready for you at Tuesday’s rehearsal.

Hydrate in style

We are considering ordering this water bottle for our own members use, and for sale at our events. I need to know if there is enough interest from the chorus to support a minimum order of 12. The cost would be $25 each.

February 16, 2025

The Forget Me Notes quartet poses with recipient Sheri Daylong and her husband, Bill Daylong, Feb. 14, 2025. Members of the quartet are bass Gary Lindsay, baritone Al Huneke, tenor Larry Hlavacek and lead Jack Ray.

Two chapter quartets deliver Singing Valentines

Our two chapter quartets brought joy to many Friday as they delivered Singing Valentines. At one delivery two little girls asked to sing along for their mom’s singing valentine as Al Huneke whispered words prompting them . At another, an elderly couple locked eyes and joined hands while our quartet sang “Let Me Call You Sweetheart.” They were celebrating their 73rd anniversary later this week. During our delivery to the boss at Legacy Manufacturing in Marion, one employee was impressed enough to immediately order a Singing Valentine for his wife.

Financially, we fell well short of our goal, selling 17 Valentines and making about $700. Still, the effort had some other good results. By creating two chapter quartets, the chorus is in a better place to respond to the many requests we get for providing entertainment to groups in the area. Also, we did provide a free SV to a chorus supporter (Doug Valentine State Farm Insurance), handed out several membership invitations, and we should see some benefits from this. We also sang on WMT radio and that exposure cannot hurt!
