Rehearsal Afterglow this Tuesday

In our recent member interviews several indicated that they would enjoy a afterglow following a rehearsal once a month. The first of those will be this Tuesday night. After rehearsal head to the Starlight Room. They are expecting us. For those who haven’t been there, it is located on First Avenue NE, 3300 First Ave. They have a full bar and excellent food menu, great service, free popcorn, and reasonable prices, and are consistent winner of local best restaurant polls. Please plan to extend the fellowship of rehearsal by joining us there.

Reminder of your learning expectations

Last week Chad presented some clear expectations for us related to learning music:

  1. When new music is available on the website copy the score to your device or print a single copy for your use. Or, you may instead pick up a copy at rehearsal. Keep this music in a folder to use at rehearsal. Mark your copy with your name.
  2. As we are learning the music, have it in your hands and mark it with Chad’s interpretations, breath marks, etc. and any changes we make. Even when we are “off the music” keep your copy and pencil at hand for any changes or needed reminders.
  3. When learning tracks are available, use them until your part is learned.
  4. Review your music at least once a week prior to rehearsal.

New music up this week

“Hush” and “Church Bells” have been added to the Song List. “Gospel Medley” and “There’s a Meetin’ Here Tonight” are also available there.

Kudos to all

The Spring Show was a complete success! Way to go. As one of our members stated, we peaked at the right time but maybe could have been a little earlier. We will give you final statistics once we have tallied all the tickets, ads and expenses. I couldn’t be more proud of your work! People I spoke with following the show ALL had positive reactions to the entire show. The afterglow was a success. The Choir Boys, Cheap Seats, and the Forget Me Notes performed. Thank you for bringing delicious treats.

The success of the show, from both as entertainment and financially, was due to the efforts of all of us, but, President’s prerogative, I’d like to especially recognize a few for outstanding efforts:

  • Larry Hlavacek for his leadership of the show team, and those who served on the team, including Al Huneke, Leland Freie (afterglow), Mary Huneke (ticket sales, promotions ) and Mary Aldrich (house manager) and her team.
  • Chad Knipfer for teaching us the music, his direction, coaching, and gentle motivation, providing just the right touch in making this event fun for all of us.
  • Miriam Mackey and her team at St. Paul’s for coordinating all the facilities support we enjoyed. She even bought a ticket and enjoyed the show!
  • Larry Aspleaf, Connie and Jim Sjostrom, Tom Zuber and John Roltgen for selling multiple tickets and bringing people from their community to the show.
  • All who sold ads and made contributions. We had 15 Platinum level donors, by far a record number.

Honor flight training performances

We were honored to take part in the training meetings for the April and May Eastern Iowa Honor Flights. We performed the National Anthem and the Armed Forces Medley. Those veterans and their “guardians” are annually some of our largest audiences. Thank you to those who turned out to perform. You can view a video segment on the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight Facebook page.
