Beware of grandchildren calling today with shocking news followed by “April Fools!”
Review from Tuesday’s rehearsal:
- Reminder: “Sweet Caroline” Download a new copy and throw out your old one. It’s updated on the website. Several of us were confused in last night’s rehearsal because we were working from different scores.
- Our “off the music” deadline for this song is May 5
- Work on dynamics and breath work.
- Review our work on “In My Room”:
- Leads and Baritones: Keep the pitch up; we consistently sang flat last night on this.
- All parts: “Pull the taffy” – keeping all lines connected
- The 12/8 time signature means that when Chad directs in 4 beats, each one is subdivided into 3; this can be counted in your head as “one-and-a, two -and-a, three-and-, four-and-a.” This is represented by the dotted ¼ notes, four to a measure. Then the pattern breaks in places like measure 6 “In_my room” that gives the song it’s distinctive rhythm.
- Remember the emotional plan: The song starts very introspectively and gains confidence as it progresses.
- Make sure that you have marked your scores with the following:
- Breath mark at the end of measure 10
- Word change for leads and tenors in measure 22, “loo” becomes “pray”
- Accel in measure 27
- NB in measure 29
- Basses: Learn measures 27 – 29 of “In My Room”; it’s not melody but we need to sing it as if it were, like leads.
Deadline:
Our off the music deadline for “In My Room” is next week, April 7. Work on memorizing it between now and then. Suggested method using the leaning tracks:
- Just listen to your part track and read the music 2X
- Hum along 2X
- Sing with the track 2X
- Sing with the full mix
For next rehearsal
