Thanks for all who sang at Villas at Stoney Point

We’ll use some time at business break to debrief with your comments and some from the music team. Have your thoughts ready. (See also Larry’s Note below).

Tuesday Songs

  • In My Room
    • Remember the emotional plan for the song. The mood is Introspective at first. Think of a teenager who lacks confidence; he’s lonely. As the song progresses, he becomes more confident and sees the room as something special. One caution, with the staggered entrances; we cannot be too tentative.
    • April 7 was our “off-the-music “date on this song. If you still need the music please work hard to get off it.
  • Something
    • Our “off-the-music” deadline for this song is May 5
    • For the emotional plan for this song, think back to our youth when we experienced love for the first time. What attracted us to our first love? Was it really love? Would it last? The song’s speaker is sharing these feelings with a friend, being vulnerable. When the lyrics say, “You’re asking me will my love grow…” we need to sing more emphatically.
    • Basses, review the sections where the melody moves to us and back to the leads. Sing smoothly and assertively when you have the melody.
    • Leads work think “gracefully assertive” when you have the melody.
  • How Can I Keep From Singing
    • There are no learning tracks for “How Can I Keep From Singing.” Larry H will replace the computer-generated voice parts with computer-generated piano parts.
  • Lullaby
  • Love Letters
  • I Asked The Lord

Notes:

  • The  performance on Tuesday was very well received by the residents at The Villas. Thank you for making Larry Aspleaf happy, too.
  • We will sing there again, some time in the future.
  • It is EXTREMELY important that you follow the director. Tempo issues popped up at our sing-out on Tuesday. Once the runaway train got going, it was very difficult for Chad to slow it down. Following the director is also important for cutoffs and attacks. We can only get better when we follow better.

Upcoming Events

  • April 28 – Afterglow at Starlight Inn
  • May 7 – Cookie Fest in Iowa City. Guest director from BHS. If we have sufficient numbers HH will perform.
  • May 25 , 11 a.m. (Monday) – Cedar Memorial Performance
