Some positives
Our sound at Tuesday’s rehearsal was excellent, perhaps because our numbers were bolstered by some Hawks returning to the nest. It was great to have Wendell Keith and J.P. McDonald. The work we are all doing at home is paying off. Keep working hard, especially on those OTM pieces. Thank you for your patience when Chad feels the need to drill down on some song; when he hears us singing so well in some section, he knows what we’re capable of and he wants to hear it consistently.
Review these:
“Something” – all voices, work on vowel matching to let the chords ring. There are many ooh and oh sounds in this song, as well as some -er endings.
Basses: We still need to be solid on meas. 21 – 22 and 25-27. When we have the downbeat solos we need to be solid. (i.e. meas. 30)
“In My Room”: The notes and words are good, so let’s go to the next lever with expression. Keep the performance plan in mind. It’s quiet at first as the speaker lacks confidence, but it quickly gains in confidence. Really watch the dynamics as the interp. rests on this. Also, keep it smooth, “painting with wide strokes.”
Reminder:
Bring names and contact information for your three guests for our upcoming Guest Night. July 14. Bring the competed worksheet to Jack Ray next rehearsal.
